The surge of consumer interest in electric vehicles (EVs) is clearly a trend gaining momentum for auto dealerships. Electrification will affect all aspects of a dealership’s business operations, from inventory management to sales to service to power management. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are encouraging—or in many cases requiring—their dealerships to convert inventory to EVs.
The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) is offering plenty of opportunities for attendees to explore the future of EVs at NADA Show 2023. This year’s show takes place from January 26 to January 29 in Dallas.
Future Energy will have a company booth throughout the week near the Sports District Café. There, our subject matter experts will answer any questions to help navigate the landscape of electrification. Plus, in the EV Solutions Center, the president of Future Energy, Dan Young, will be delivering an important talk about dealerships and their local utilities.
DEALERSHIPS AND ELECTRIC UTILITY SUPPLY FOR EV CHARGING
Dan’s talk is entitled, “Electric Utility Supply Disruption to EV Dealerships: How Utility Companies Are Essential to Auto Manufacturers, Dealerships, and Electric Vehicle Charging.” It takes place on Friday, January 27 at 10:00 a.m.
UNDERSTANDING UTILITY REQUIREMENTS
Dan will thoroughly address how changing utility requirements will affect dealerships.
For example, level 3 chargers, or direct current fast chargers, require a 480-volt power supply. Nearly all utility companies across the US and Canada will need to order new transformers to handle the extra load. In addition, switch gears and other equipment will need to be in stock and available for utility upgrades.
FUTUREPROOFING YOUR INFRASTRUCTURE
A strong electrical infrastructure is required to support EV charging solutions that are necessary for an electrical inventory.
With the push to integrate EV charging, Future Energy has research indicating that businesses are facing a three to three-and-a-half-year wait to upgrade their infrastructure.
Dan will discuss why it’s critical for dealerships to get in line now, while load capacity is still available.
CHOOSING YOUR EV HARDWARE
Future Energy recommends that most dealerships integrate a combination of level 3 chargers and level 2 chargers. Level 2 chargers use a 240-volt source and supply about 40 miles of charge per hour. Level 2 chargers are more appropriate for charging EVs overnight. Level 3 chargers can fill an EV battery in about a half hour.
FUTURE ENERGY’S PARTNERSHIP WITH STELLANTIS
In 2021, Future Energy began working with the OEM Stellantis to facilitate and guide Stellantis’s commitment to electrification. Stellantis has committed to introducing at least 25 different types of EVs by 2030. Future Energy’s partnership with Stellantis is in full force at NADA Show 2023.
ANSWERING QUESTIONS ABOUT ELECTRIFICATION
Future Energy will have two representatives present in the Market Center Booth within the Stellantis area (booth number 6155). We are happy and ready to discuss how our customized EV Impact Study helped Stellantis develop and implement the electrification strategy for 70% of its 2,600-plus North American dealers.
EDUCATING DEALERSHIP STAFF
An important part of Future Energy’s partnership with Stellantis involves educating dealership management and staff. Our training involves the integration of EV sales strategies, including how to address common consumer questions. We also work with dealerships so that employees know how to operate, manage, and maintain EV charging infrastructure.
CAFFEINATING OUR CLIENTELE!
Also within the Stellantis area at NADA Show 2023, Future Energy is sponsoring a coffee station that provides complimentary coffee for all visitors.
OTHER EV INFORMATION AT NADA SHOW 2023
Eight representatives from Future Energy will be available at NADA Show 2023 to answer questions about our auto dealership EV charging solutions.
EV SOLUTIONS CENTER
In addition to Dan Young’s presentation, the EV Solutions Center features other mini-sessions that address the issues dealers face as they navigate the landscape for EVs. A series of question-and-answer sessions will focus on all aspects of the dealership EV experience. Most information centered around EVs will take place in the EV Solutions Center.
SUPPLEMENTING WITH ADDITIONAL LECTURES
The Dealer Learning Lab will also feature additional 20-minute talks with subjects related to EV charging. For example, digital transformation goes hand-in-hand with EV charging solutions.
CUSTOMIZING YOUR EV EDUCATION
The NADA Show 2023 website allows attendees to customize their schedules according to the workshops and lectures that peak their interest.
Just make sure you highlight Dan Young’s presentation at 10:00 a.m. on January 27!
